STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO ISRAEL BARRING REPS. OMAR AND TLAIB FROM VISITING

Sacramento, CA – The California Legislative Jewish Caucus released the following statement in response to the Israeli Government barring Representatives Omar and Tlaib from visiting Israel:

“The California Legislative Jewish Caucus is disappointed with the Government of Israel’s decision to reverse course and deny entry to two sitting Members of Congress. While we disagree with a number of the sentiments expressed by Representatives Omar and Tlaib with regards to Israel and the Jewish Community, we believe that it is essential that elected officials and community leaders of all backgrounds and faiths be able to freely visit Israel. We applaud the many American Jewish organizations and leaders—from AIPAC, AJC, and ADL to IPF and J Street—who have spoken out against what we believe to be an unwise and counterproductive decision. We have shared our concerns directly with Israel’s diplomatic representatives in California and strongly urge the Prime Minister to reconsider this shortsighted decision.”
