2019 Yom Hashoah Ceremony in the Capitol

On Monday, April 29, 2019, the Jewish Caucus hosted the annual Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony in the Capitol. A resolution commemorating the day was adopted by the Senate, accompanied by beautiful speeches from the leaders of the Black, Latino, Asian Pacific Islander, LGBT, and Women's Caucues. The USC Shoah Foundation exhibited Dimensions in Testimony, new technology where one can interact with a virtual Holocaust survivors. And, for the main event, a ceremony was held on the Assembly Floor. Ten Holocaust survivors, Jewish community leaders from across the state, and Senators joined the floor ceremony, which included a prayer, video, honorary ceremony for the survivors, and an Adjournment in Memory for the grandfather of our very own Asm. Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, who also presided over the ceremony.

Following the ceremony, members, survivors, guests were greeted by state leaders Governor Gavin Newsom, Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Speaker Anthony Rendon, and Israeli Consul General to Northern California Shlomi Koffman.
